k_chaykin Genius Temporis “Blue Arrow” is a striking chapter in the history of Konstantin Chaykin’s technical and design innovations. The watch brings together the aesthetics of several eras. On the one hand, its single hand refers to early portable watches of the 15th and 16th centuries. On the other, the model does not directly borrow from historical watch design, but reinterprets it in a modern neoclassical idiom.
The graphite-toned central area with vertical satin finishing, the light-colored hour ring and the deep blue Arabic numerals give this historically important prototype a refined and coherent appearance. Its main feature, however, remains hidden until the dedicated button is pressed: the single hand, shaped like a crossbow bolt, instantly switches from indicating the hours to indicating the minutes.

k_chaykin In watchmaking, calendar complications are most often tied to the European calendar tradition. Konstantin Chaykin approaches the subject more broadly: for him, the calendar is not merely a mechanical function, but also a reflection of how different civilizations and religions understand time. This idea lies at the heart of the Lunar Hijra table clock, based on the Islamic lunar calendar Hijra mechanism invented by the master. The movement displays the moonphase, date, month and day of the week in the Islamic calendar, along with the date and month in the Gregorian calendar. Another distinctive feature is the recognizable tourbillon with the “Alpha” tourbillon cage. This watch was designed not to conceal the manufacture-made movement, but to reveal it. That is why the dial features cut-outs, while the case is fitted with several mineral glass windows.

В часовом искусстве календарные усложнения чаще всего связаны с европейской системой летоисчисления. Но Константин Чайкин смотрит на эту тему шире: календарь интересует его не только как механическая функция, но и система отчета в мировоззрении разных цивилизаций и религий. Потому в основу настольных часов «Лунная Хиджра» легло изобретенное мастером устройство мусульманского лунного календаря Хиджра. Механизм показывает фазу Луны, дату, месяц и день недели по мусульманскому календарю, а также дату и месяц по григорианскому. Отдельная особенность конструкции – узнаваемый турбийон с кареткой дизайна «альфа». При разработке часов автору важно было не скрывать, а показать мануфактурный механизм.

k_chaykin In one of Horace’s odes, the famous expression carpe diem appears. In Russian, it has become established as “seize the moment”. Yet the literal meaning of the Latin carpe is closer to “pluck” – as one plucks a ripe fruit. This phrase therefore carries not only a call not to postpone life, but also a deeper sense of the value of the present day. The future is unknown, the present slips away, and all a person truly has is the moment lived here and now. This is the idea Konstantin Chaykin translates into the Carpe Diem watch, created in the spirit of the allegorical vanitas tradition. The central figure of the composition is a relief micro-sculpture of Chronos – the ancient personification of Time, which cannot be stopped, held back or turned around. With one hand, he rests on an hourglass – a unique minute indicator. An original shutter system creates the illusion of grains of sand flowing from one bulb to the other. The hours are shown by a single hand on a small subdial, a reference to the Renaissance era.

k_chaykin “Lucomorye” is one of Konstantin Chaykin’s most visually striking and ambitious creations. It instantly resonates with anyone who grew up with the prologue to Pushkin’s Ruslan and Lyudmila. The oak tree, the wise cat, the mermaid, and the warriors are not merely decorative motifs here – they form the basis of an entire mechanical narrative. The project took around six years to complete and demanded enormous effort not only from Chaykin himself, but also from Ilgiz Fazulzyanov, who was responsible for its exceptionally intricate jewelled work. At the heart of this unique masterpiece lies the master’s invention of chain graphic hour indication: a chain winds around a special roller fitted with tiny spikes, gradually forming Roman numerals from I to XII. This complication accounts for a substantial portion of the movement’s 1,119 components. The table clock also features a tourbillon, along with minute and date indications.

В основу уникального шедевра легло изобретенное мастером устройство цепной графической индикации часа: цепочка наматывается на особый валик с крошечными шипами, последовательно складываясь в римские цифры – от I до XII. Именно на это усложнение приходится значительная часть всех 1119 деталей механизма. Также в этих настольных часах реализованы турбийон, индикатор минут и даты.

k_chaykin Finishing, an essential hallmark of haute horlogerie, becomes a challenge of its own in the world of ultra-thin watchmaking. The artisan must do more than decorate a surface – he must preserve the geometry and thickness of each component literally within micron-level tolerances. In ThinKing Mystery, the share of handwork is especially high, above all at the finishing stage. Ultra-thin watches made from an alloy that has undergone complex heat treatment demand exceptionally delicate handling. Even so, they are finished according to the full canon of high watchmaking, with traditional techniques such as perlage, hand-polishing, directional brushing, and sandblasting. Much of the time is spent not on the decorative pattern itself, but on bringing each part perfectly flat and maintaining its exact dimensions. A major advantage for the artisans responsible for decorative finishing is a set of unique tools and fixtures designed and manufactured in-house by the manufactory.

Большим подспорьем для мастеров финишной художественной отделки становится набор уникальных оснасток, которые мануфактура проектирует и изготавливает сама.

k_chaykin Friends, a new drop is live!

From this moment and over the next 24 hours, a limited edition print by Konstantin Chaykin, “Sedmitsa”, is available for purchase. Showing different forms of time is a defining feature of Horological Art. This process is captured in the painting Mad Horological Party.

Behind the artist’s back, four characters appear in the composition. One of them is Sedmitsa. In the self-portrait, she embodies Alice in Wonderland. Her name, however, comes from an old word for the seven days of the week. Sedmitsa holds a seven-pointed star as a metaphor for cyclicity. In this way, the archetype brings painting and watchmaking together, becoming one of the oldest images of time.

To convey the depth of colour in the original large-scale painting, this print was produced using a special method – a 14-colour screen print. The image is built up in multiple stages, entirely by hand. A separate stencil is created for each colour. This craftsmanship echoes watchmaking, where the precision of every movement is decisive.

Это роднит шелкографию с часовым делом, где точность каждого движения имеет решающее значение.

k_chaykin ThinKing Mystery opens a new chapter in the history of ultra-thin watchmaking. Konstantin Chaykin Manufacture is releasing the model in a limited edition of 12 pieces, turning the record-breaking thickness of 1.65 mm from a one-off achievement into a fully-fledged limited edition. The defining feature of the new watch is its fully transparent “eyes” – sapphire hour and minute indication discs that reference both the Manufacture’s signature Joker image and the theme of mystery indication familiar from the Levitas collection. Yet ThinKing Mystery matters not only as an engineering breakthrough. Despite its extremely slim profile, the watch is finished in full accordance with the canons of haute horlogerie. The bridges and mainplate are decorated with straight graining and perlage, the wheels feature circular graining, and all bevels are cut and mirror-polished by hand. The purity of the silhouette gives the watch its particular sense of unity: the model has no crown, and two new auxiliary tools with built-in safety mechanisms have been created for winding and time-setting.

«Загадка Тонкого Короля» (ThinKing Mystery) открывает новую главу в истории ультратонких часов. Мануфактура «Константин Чайкин» выпускает эту модель тиражом в 12 экземпляров, превращая рекордную толщину 1,65 мм из единичного достижения в полноценное лимитированное издание. k_chaykin Two years ago, Konstantin Chaykin made headlines worldwide when he unveiled a prototype of the world’s thinnest mechanical watch, with a case thickness of just 1.65 mm. From the earliest concept stage, he decided that this record-breaker should be not only a technical breakthrough, but also a bold, emotionally charged object. That is why he built it around his highly successful Joker indication, where the hour and minute displays are placed on separate axes. For the master, this was the obvious engineering choice: traditional hands mounted one above the other inevitably add height. The case is a monocoque construction, with the caseback taking on the role of the movement’s mainplate. The top cover is solid as well, which also improves rigidity. Only two relatively small openings are cut for the two subdials, allowing the watch to use two paired crystals instead of a single large one.



Два года назад Константин Чайкин стал автором главной мировой сенсации, представив прототип самых тонких механических часов в мире – с толщиной корпуса всего 1,65 мм. Еще на этапе задумки он решил, что часы-рекордсмены непременно будут не только техническим прорывом, но и ярким эмоциональным объектом. Потому он решил отталкиваться от своей суперуспешной концепции джокер-индикации, при которой указатели часов и минут разносятся по разным осям. Это стало для мастера очевидным инженерным решением: ведь часовая и минутная стрелки, закрепленные одна над другой, в сумме дают бóльшую высоту. Корпус часов представляет собой монокок с задней крышкой, которая взяла на себя функцию платины механизма. Верхняя крышка корпуса сплошная, что также вносит свой вклад в повышение прочности. В ней сделаны лишь два относительно небольших окна для двух субциферблатов, что позволяет использовать вместо одного большого стекла два парных.
