bykaterinas When we found this house 2 years ago, it was close to being demolished:

Built right after the First World War, it had passed through several owners. The last one ran some kind of café and, unfortunately, didn’t do this machiya justice: parts of the exterior were even painted blue.

Still, some elements were beautiful. From the beginning, I knew I wanted to keep those parts untouched, even as we completely transformed the house.

And that’s what we did.

We preserved many of the original walls and focused on making the space feel unmistakably Japanese, while adapting it for contemporary living.
