In my opinion, a dive is not truly finished until you are completely out of the water, not just when you reach the surface.

This is a skill that many divers often underestimate.

For diving activities, I prefer a boat equipped with T-ladders. This design allows divers to exit the water efficiently and quickly while still wearing their fins.

Here’s a checklist for a safe exit:

- Fins on
- Mask on
- Regulator in your mouth
- BCD inflated

You should only approach the ladder when it is clear of other divers.

Make sure to distribute your weight properly across your knees, hips, and spine, and keep your core engaged.

Of course, there can be exceptions based on specific situations, configurations, or medical conditions that might influence your choice. However, this method is effective 99% of the time, as demonstrated in the video.

anna_schmitt_course_director Every diver knows another diver 😅 who will squeeze out of the dive all that he possibly can.

In the Red Sea, we have a rule, the dive should not exceed 60 minutes.
So it is always a struggle to get divers out of the water.
Sometimes I think, it is all my fault 🫣 I teach them good buoyancy and breathing techniques 🤣🤣🤣 so now they do not breathe and can stay long in the water. I am happy about that, better skills safer divers.

Unfortunately, every year I see a decrease in the quality of courses given and dives conducted, there are less and less divers with good buoyancy and good air consumption, and even fewer divers who are aware of risks...

I hear more and more stories about accidents, injuries, panic attacks, cases of decompression illness, etc.

For me, as a Pro, it is very sad, and of course, it is my responsibility to change that, at least in the environment I create and teach.

I want to build a community where divers, Divemasters, and Instructors can share their experiences, learn from mistakes of each other, and create a safer world for divers. So I am giving my hand to everyone who would like to become a better version of himself and others.

In this reel, we conducted an experiment with the Divemaster candidate, to visualize the process of “Knowledge Dilution”.
Most likely it happens all the time here and there, but of course, at different intensities and a lot of other factors influence that process.
This is a big topic that I cover during diving courses, especially during professional training.

What I can say right now, is that awareness is the key. Once we face the problem, to deal with it and find a sustainable solution becomes a priority.

Proper weighting
At the surface, in water in which too deep to stand have student divers practice weighing for neutral buoyancy. They should float at eye level at the surface with no or minimal air in the BCD while holding normal breath.

This skill is crucial for comfort and safety during the dive.
•Being overweight will make it difficult to maintain buoyancy control.
•Being underweight might lead to a struggle at the end of the dive and an uncontrolled accent.

The purpose of this video is to emphasize that recreational divers in classic equipment configuration should not underestimate the importance of a snorkel as part of their equipment.

Do you question yourself if you should wear fins for the dive? Probably not.

The same story with snorkel, it can be an effective risk management tool but only if used regularly.
Yes snorkel in general is not used as often as fins, giving us the wrong idea that we can dive without it.

Snorkel is uncomfortable? Choose the one that will be properly balanced, easily clipped on the mask, flexible, and has a comfortable mouthpiece.

I use my snorkel through all recreational dives and courses. It helped me on many occasions to act efficiently at the surface and assist other divers in need.
