alexeymolchanov People always ask why. Why keep doing this? Why keep pushing? To be completely honest, I don’t know how not to. I’ve been in the water since I was 3 years old. Competing for most of my life. And absolutely loving it! Pool has never been my main focus, and this was my first @aidafreediving Pool World Championship in 11 years. A blackout in freediving is simply the body’s way of protecting itself, temporarily losing consciousness due to low oxygen levels, usually during the final meters of ascent. Here’s the crucial part: competition is the SAFEST place for it to happen. With multiple trained safety divers, meticulous protocols, and constant monitoring, athletes receive immediate assistance at the very first signs of distress. Blackouts are carefully managed, and are a well-understood part of the sport. Freediving is about respecting limits and understanding safety above all else. When performed responsibly, it is not only breathtaking—it’s incredibly safe.
